Lincoln University has the oldest agricultural school in the southern hemisphere. The university started in 1878 as the School of Agriculture, and from 1896 to 1961, it was under the University of New Zealand. From 1961 to 1990, was Lincoln College under the University of Canterbury.  The departments at Lincoln University are agribusiness and commerce, agriculture and life science, and a faculty for Environment, society, and design.

8. Auckland University of Technology

Auckland University of Technology was formed in 2000 when the technical college was converted into the University. The lineage of the college goes back to 1895. The university is also known for its diversity, with more than 4000 international students enrolled in the university. The five departments of AUT are Te Ara Poutama (related to indigenous Maori people), Health and Environment science, Design and Creative Technology, Business and Law, Culture and Society.
